Continent of Aseuraica
Aseuraica is the most populous continent on Erathas and has dominated Erathian history for most of mortal existence. The many diverse cultures, religions, and peoples on the continent have come together or fought against each other numerous times.
Arrival of Mortal Species to Aseuraica
The Continent of Light, thought to be shrouded within the mist of the southeastern Southern Ocean, was where the Creator, the Father, first created the higher forms of mortal species known today (high elves, mer, high orcs, dwarves, sarpa, and humans). Upon Aseuraica the Father had created several bestial species (wulvers, vanara, felitherians, vodyanoy, elflings, bairnlings, and gomes) similar to the higher forms in their greater cognition, and known as the Mythic Species. Why did the Father decide to create new life separate from those already living on Aseuraica? Many religions say species from the Continent of Light are greatest.
Upon the Continent of Light is the shining Golden City where pairs of each new species lived under the direct guidance of the Father. One masculine and one feminine. They lived in peace and gained the love of the Mother, the one who sits beside the Father. Soon they fell into conflict and refused to follow the laws of the Father who saw this as betrayal. The Mother interceded on their behalf and cooled the anger of the Father. Instead of extinction the Father cursed each pair:
- They would never give birth to new life
- They were banished from the Golden City
- Their ashes and their souls would seed the evolution that would see them return to the world, but unfavored by the Father
For ages did the pairs wander the Continent of Light in shame and remorse. Each built new cities in pale imitations of the Golden City, in their own styles. The cities were empty, its rulers monarchs of dust. Each pair died, their ashes and souls scattered to the four corners of the world and the Continent of Light was left bare. It would be these ashes and soul fragments which spawned the first cells of conventional evolution, giving rise to all the species known today.
The high elves and dwarves of Eldarun, the high orcs of the Potentate, the sarpa of the Nagaraj, and the mer of the Great Reef were the first of the Continent of Light’s species to evolve, appearing in each of their own corners of Aseuraica. They are the Elder Species who eliminated all the Mythic Species except for elflings and bairnlings.
When these Elder Species were cementing their kingdoms, humans evolved. All evolved in the lands of the Zanji and spread out from there, except for the Nordris of Norharrland, who arrived from a frigid eternally frozen continent far in the northern Ice Ocean. They displaced the elves and wulvers of Norharrland.
Kingdoms and Empires of Aseuraica
Since their arrival thousands of years of history has shaped the Aseuraica known today. Many kingdoms and empires have risen and fallen through climate, violence, magic, or diplomacy resulting in the configuration seen in the map below. Click below the map to find out more about these polities:
- Kingdom of Gurmanis – Aseuraica’s northwestern land. A feudal kingdom operating more as a semi-centralized empire. Home of the varied Gurmian peoples.
- Saomarhad Sultanate – Crossroads of the continent. A diverse region united by a singular faith, mercantile expertise, and a connector of cultures.
- Union of Norharrland – Its coast marked by rugged fjords, towering mountains, and frigid snows, this is a land of brothers, adventurers, and a hardy people.
- Rhoathian Imperium – Cradle of human power in the west. Metropolitan, wealthy, and originator of empire, this is the land of the proud Imperiali.
- Hrindnagara – A land of a hundred tongues, a hundred faiths, and deep spiritual connections. Great wealth comes from this bountiful and populous land.
- Tsemosacha – Aseuraica’s highest land where those seeking enlightenment find a theochratic people isolated from the world.
- Qinguo – Law, piety, and spirit maintain harmony checked by heaven’s mandate in the populous Middle Kingdom.
- Goyonara – Serene mountains, clear waters, and a diligent people coexist within the Land of the Morning Calm.
- Nichikoku – Loyalty, honor, and the warrior’s way dominate in the feudal Land of the Rising Sun.
- Mokerjin Khaganate – Vast green hills and plains bear witness to charging hordes and the voice of the spirits in the Land of the Eternal Blue Sky.
- Eldarun Dominion – Blended within dense forests and deep or delicate cities are the elven and dwarven people, long-lived and proud.
- Orcish Potentate – Shattered, broken, never defeated. Here live the orcish nomads of a pre-ancient legacy among the rugged steppe.
- New Comerlandia – Slavers, colonizers, who wins and who suffers? It’s just business when you control trade upon the seas.
- Republic of Freehold – Born of a vision of unity in diversity. Talents come together in the land of the northern merchants.
- The Tainted Lands – The Underworld torn forth. The vision of creation’s rival and home to the brutal Kalshaimar’s Spawn.
